2.22.12 update

Good Morning Chefs and Buyers,

An amazing 280 pound Local Swordfish showed up this morning.  The color and firmness of the flesh make this a stunning fish.  East Coast Canadian Halibut keeps showing up.  They are 10 to 50 pounds each.  The boat's that fish these are only out for 2 days.  It doesn't get any fresher than that.  Wild Striped Bass from Virginia is in this morning.  Maryland remains closed and Delaware has yet to open.  Delaware is scheduled to open March 1st.  This will hopefully help stabilize the price and bring us some smaller fish.  Right now, all that is available are 12 to 20 pounders.  Jumbo Black Sea Bass looks amazing today.  They have bright red gills and are 3 to 5 pounds each out of Boston.

We are hoping to get out regular Thursday shipment of Portuguese Sardines tonight.  The President's Day holiday hopefully didn't mess up the schedule.  Ecuadorian Escolar looks like a nice option for a special.  It is a huge fish, so we will cut whatever size you need.  Chilean Turbot is always a solid choice.

Florida came through again with terrific items.  8 to 12 pound Golden Tilefish are fresh as always.  Red Grouper is very nice today at 5 to 10 pounds each.  Fresh 16/20 Gulf Shrimp are a can't miss.  We also have Medium Stone Crab Claws today.

On this day in 1980, in one of the most dramatic upsets in sports history, the underdog U.S. Hockey team defeated the four time defending gold medal winning Soviet team.  The XIII Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York was the setting.  The U.S. team was made up of college players.  The heavily favored Soviet team was regarded as the best team in the world.  The U.S. took the lead in the 3rd period thanks to a 25 foot wrist-shot by team captain Mike Eruzione.  Somehow, they held on to that lead for the remaining 9 minutes of play.  Believe it or not, this game was actually shown on a tape delay later that evening.  Only the 10,000 fans in attendance knew of the "Miracle on Ice" as it happened.  Two days later, the U.S. defeated Finland to capture the gold medal.

Have a great day.
